SPECIALIZED school focusing on history, offering regular trips to Boston, DC and Philly among other cities, and using primary documents to bring its unusually long, three-year history course to life. Most other schools only offer one year. History is weaved into other subject matters, as well. Principal Alessandro. Weiss said, “Not every brilliant person in the world wants to become a rocket scientist,” adding that some may want to become lawyers or teachers. The school excels across the board – 96% of graduates passed all Regents, and 61 percent with an average of 90 or above. All students take AP courses. The small school helps “foster a positive sense of community that discourages cutthroat competition,” Weiss said. There is a focus on research. None of the teaching faculty has less than three years experience. Some college courses offered at Lehman.
