Rex finger fine enough for NFL

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The Fingergate issue is closed.

Rex Ryan’s discipline for flipping off a bunch of raucous Dolphins fans Saturday night at a mixed martial arts event in South Florida — a $50,000 fine levied by the Jets — is the full extent of his punishment.

As first reported in Tuesday’s Post, the team fining Ryan was sufficient for the league, which will not step in, it was confirmed yesterday by NFL spokesperson Greg Aiello.

Ryan was caught on a cell phone camera flipping his middle finger at a fan during the MMA competition in Sunrise. The picture became an instant internet sensation and severely ruffled the feathers of the image-conscious Jets and NFL.

Ryan apologized the next day in a statement, calling his actions “stupid and inappropriate.” Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum said Ryan “showed extremely poor judgment” and the team would address the matter internally.

An NFL source told The Post on Monday that if the team imposed a fine the league likely would not add to it, saying, “It’s not double-jeopardy.”
