Jets can’t keep Austin Howard from open market

The Jets and right tackle Austin Howard failed to reach agreement on a deal, meaning Howard will test free agency, according to a source.

Howard has been the Jets’ starting right tackle for the past two years and was the Jets’ top priority among their own free agents. The two sides negotiated for weeks, but could not make a deal.

Howard, 26, has already drawn interest from other teams, according to a source. The Miami Herald reported the Dolphins would like to add Howard, keeping him in the AFC East.
