Girls basketball roundup: Mary Louis tops SFP, B/Q playoff seeds set

The final pieces of the CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens Division I puzzle have fallen into place.

Archbishop Molloy claimed fourth place with St. Francis Prep’s 72-62 loss to visiting Mary Louis Monday night. Karin Robinson had 24 points, eight rebounds and eight steals for TMLA (14-6, 9-3 B/Q). Christy Calderon had 11 points and five rebounds, Sherina Caldwell had eight points and five rebounds and Camille Romero added 10 points.

Nicole Lenard led St. Francis Prep (11-9, 5-7) with 17 points and Stacy Kurumusis added 12 points. Shatira Hamlet and Arianna Hatzioannides each had seven points. SFP and the Stanners finish with the same league record, but Molloy won both meetings. It also earns the Briarwood school the league’s top seed when the CHSAA Class A state playoffs get underway in March.

Molloy fell, 56-47, at home to St. Rose (N.J.) on Monday in a non-league contest. Kyra Aloizos had 12 points and Marielle Duryea had 10 points for the Stanners (9-14), which trailed by just three in the second quarter. Alison Sweeney had 15 points, Samantha Clark had 14 points and Kasey Chambers had 12 for St. Rose (18-1), one of the top teams in New Jersey.

Christ the King placed first and receives a bye to the semifinals. Mary Louis was third and will face No. 6 Bishop Kearney, Molloy will meet No. 5 St. Francis Prep and No. 2 Bishop Ford plays No. 7 Bishop Loughlin in the other quarterfinals Feb 23 at St. Francis Prep.

St. John Villa 53, St. Joseph Hill 50: Katie Nikosey scored 17 points and Brittany Sullivan had eight for St. John Villa (7-15, 3-4) in CHSAA Staten Island. The Bears have won four of their last five games. Kelsey Carey scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, Kieran Meagher had 11 points and Keelen Smith added eight for Hill (13-9, 4-4).

St. Peter’s 65, Bloomfield Tech (N.J.) 26: Christine Kline scored 11 points for the Eagles (19-1), who one both of their games at the Prime Events Shootout in Absecon, N.J.
