Report: LeBron tour to start in New York

LeBron James is coming to New York!

For a visit.

Fanhouse.com reports James plans to begin his summer of free agency with a tour of possible final destinations, beginning in New York City on July 1.

Citing “a source with first-hand knowledge of James’ plans,” the report says James’ recent interview with CNN “was only the beginning of his elaborate scheme to draw unprecedented attention to his courting.”

According to the source, New York is up first, including the Knicks and Nets, followed by Chicago.

“Depending on the level of sustained public interest and the discussions with the teams in the respective cities, James will decide at that point whether to continue on to Miami and possibly Los Angeles to see the Clippers,” the report says.

The report claims Nike will create a special sneaker for each stop, with the date marked on each.

James’ publicist told the Post it is not his intention to upstage the NBA Finals between the Celtics and Lakers, which began last night in Los Angeles.

Commissioner David Stern said he did not have a problem with the visibility of James and other free agents who are not still playing.

“It sort of tells me that our players have, through their hard work, captured the imagination of many, many people,” Stern said, according to Fanhouse.

James told CNN Cleveland had the edge to re-sign him, but they are not mentioned as part of the tour.
