WASHINGTON — Carly Fiorina, California’s Republican Senate candidate, expressed remorse yesterday for her catty remark about Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer’s hair.
“I was quoting a friend of mine, but I regret the whole situation,” said Fiorina, whose dig at Boxer’s hairstyle was caught on video as she awaited a TV interview last week.
“I gave people the opportunity to talk about something petty and superficial,” Fiorina said on “Fox News Sunday.”
But Fiorina dodged a question about whether she called Boxer to apologize.
“I owe the voters a commitment to stay focused on issues, on facts,” she said.
In the unscripted moment, Fiorina chatted about a staffer who saw Boxer on TV that morning “and said what everyone says, ‘God, what is that hair? Soooo yesterday!’ “
