CHSAA ‘B’ boys soccer playoff roundup: McClancy routs Sacred Heart

Three days after going to the hospital because of a broken blood vessel in his eye during a match against St. Joseph by the Sea, Bruno Alexander scored a hat trick to help lead Monsignor McClancy to an 8-0 win against Sacred Heart in a CHSAA Class B intersectional first round game Thursday afternoon in East Elmhurst.

Peter Scimemi, Sal Pipia, James Linehan, Joe Mifsud each scored a goal apiece and Alberto Auriti added a penalty kick for the Crusaders (8-1-2). The defending Class B intersectional champions meet Mount St. Michael, which defeated St. John’s Prep, in the quarterfinals Thursday afternoon at McClancy. Sacred Heart ends its season at 0-13-1.

Cardinal Spellman 6, Cathedral Prep 0: Raul Santos struck twice and Malik Cameron, Marco Tutino, Andrew Rosario and Mike Wickes all scored to lead Cardinal Spellman (9-1-4) over Cathedral Prep (0-11-0) in a first round match Thursday afternoon in The Bronx. The Pilots will face Bishop Ford in the quarterfinals Thursday afternoon.

St. Joseph by the Sea 6, LaSalle 2: Ryan Gardner scored four goals and Giuseppe DiMaggio and Andrew Musco had one goal apiece for No. 8 St. Joseph by the Sea (8-1-2) in a first round Class B intersectional victory against LaSalle (3-11-0) Thursday afternoon in Huguenot. The Vikings host Salesian in the quarterfinals Thursday.

St. Edmund Prep 1, St. Raymond’s 0: Seung Lee knocked in a rebound of a shot by Matt O’Neill and Stephen Pulkowski, Shane Blundell, Hugo Arriagado and Sean McNoble played solid defense in front of goalkeeper Steven Lennon to lead St. Edmund Prep (5-5-1) over St. Raymond (7-3-4) in a first round match Thursday afternoon at All-American Field in Brooklyn.

Cardinal Hayes 7, St. Agnes 0: No. 9 Cardinal Hayes (9-0-5) routed St. Agnes (1-12-1) in a first round game Thursday afternoon and advances to take on St. Edmund Prep in the quarterfinals next Thursday.

Salesian 6, Blessed Sacrament 0: Salesian (9-2-3) advanced to the quarterfinals next Thursday after routing Blessed Sacrament (5-7-2) in White Plains Thursday.
