PSAL football predictions, Week 8

Fort Hamilton’s Brandon Reddish will look to extend the Tigers’ long regular-season winning streak versus Sheepshead Bay. (Damion Reid)

Every week in the fall, NYPost.com’s Zach Braziller and Marc Raimondi will attempt to prognosticate the coming PSAL football weekend in the City Championship division.

RECORDS AFTER WEEK 7

Braziller: 62-21 (Last week: 12-0)

Raimondi: 63-20 (Last week: 10-2)

Here’s Week 8:

Lehman @ John F. Kennedy (Friday, 7 p.m.)

Raimondi: The two first-year coaches – Michael Saunds of Lehman and Andy Lancberg of Kennedy – have wanted to add more meaning to this historic battle, so they’ve given it a name – The Bronx River Rivalry – and will be competing for an annual trophy. Unfortunately, Saunds has been suspended for the game for pulling his team off the field in the fourth quarter last week against Flushing. That could affect how things play out. Pick: Kennedy

Braziller: Surprised you didn’t mention how nervous you are, Marc. I’m just a game back after my 12-0 domination last weekend. I’m gonna sprint past you like the Phillies go by the Mets every year. I see Kennedy doing the same to Lehman. The Lions have ability, but their size — or lack thereof — will be a problem. Pick: Kennedy

Canarsie @ No. 3 Lincoln (Friday, 7 p.m.)

Braziller: Good thing for Mike Camardese his Chiefs picked up their first win last week against Midwood because Friday night will be a long evening of football for Canarsie. Lincoln has its sights set on the top seed for the City Championship division playoffs and coach Shawn O’Connor won’t let his kids overlook anyone. Pick: Lincoln

Raimondi: On paper, this is a bad matchup for Lincoln. Canarsie is a good defensive team and if you need proof of that go look at its 8-6 loss to Curtis when the Chiefs had a chance to win in the closing seconds. With that being said, the Railsplitters’ line will be too big and strong and quarterback Andrew Vital will continue his all-city type season running the football. Pick: Lincoln

No. 5 Erasmus Hall @ New Utrecht (Saturday, 11 a.m.)

Raimondi: Talk about polar opposites from last week to this week. Erasmus had a hard time moving the ball against the Lincoln defense. But the high-powered Dutchmen offense shouldn’t have any issues against a porous New Utrecht ‘D.’ Look for coach Danny Landberg’s club to get back on track. Pick: Erasmus

Braziller: The Utes are just what the doctor ordered for Erasmus. Expect big rushing numbers for the Dutchmen — everybody gashes New Utrecht’s defense on the ground — and a few big plays out of the defense. Pick: Erasmus Hall

No. 8 Brooklyn Tech @ No. 4 Campus Magnet (Saturday, 11 a.m.)

Braziller: The winner here sets itself up nicely for a preferential seed in the playoffs. Both squads are entering the matchup rolling. Campus Magnet has its marquee win, over Curtis, while Brooklyn Tech is still looking for one. Both clubs are big, like to run the ball and play a stifling brand of defense. The Engineers, though, don’t have the athletes to match up on the perimeter, and that’s why the Bulldogs will win their third straight. Senior running back Wavell Wint makes the big plays, either on the ground or through the air. Pick: Campus Magnet

Raimondi: Anyone who reads this space knows that I pick against Campus Magnet just about every week – more to rib coach Eric Barnett and a few parents I correspond with than anything else. Well, as you can see my lengthy lead over Zach has been cut to just a single game. So I can’t afford to mess around anymore. The Bulldogs are the real deal. Pick: Campus Magnet

Midwood vs. DeWitt Clinton (Saturday, 12 p.m. @ Kennedy)

Raimondi: Clinton still has a chance to make the playoffs despite those two forfeits if it wins out. So it’s almost like every game is do or die right now for the Governors. Midwood showed some firepower early in the season, but against a good Clinton defense that will likely be nullified. Pick: Clinton

Braziller: Clinton is going to make the playoffs and the Governors are going to pull off a first-round upset. Nothing has gone right from the outset for Howard Langley’s club, from blown leads to injuries to the brawl with Flushing, but they emerged from the forfeits a different team and should have no problem winning out. Pick: Clinton

Boys & Girls @ Grady (Saturday, 12 p.m.)

Braziller: Like Clinton, Boys & Girls is far better than its record indicates. That’s the result of tough luck and an unforgiving schedule. The Kangaroos got back on track last week by topping Grand Street Campus and will continue their solid play against Grady. Mark UConn-bound star Wilbert Lee down for at least two touchdowns. Pick: Boys & Girls

Raimondi: Yeah, we’ve been saying it from the very beginning – Boys got a raw deal from the schedule makers. I still think the Kangaroos are in that second or third tier of teams who would beat all but the elite in the PSAL. I like them here in an easy one – it’s been awhile since they had that. Pick: Boys & Girls

Grand Street Campus @ James Madison (Saturday, 12 p.m.)

Raimondi: I get the shakes a little bit when I see Grand Street Campus pop up on my screen. It wasn’t very long ago when I was calling the Wolves one of my sleepers for the year. Well, they’re 2-5 and starting a season without a playoff berth in the face. I don’t see them losing to Madison, though. That would be a complete disaster. Pick: Grand Street

Braziller: That was a brilliant pick, Marc. Grand Street is gonna beat Madison. What’s next, the Wolves are a sleeper? Right, you did that before. Anyway, maybe the bright spot for Madison is this will convince both parties, the PSAL and the Knights, they should move down to the Bowl division, if not the Cup. Pick: Grand Street

No. 2 Fort Hamilton @ Sheepshead Bay (Saturday, 12 p.m.)

Braziller: The Sharks are the last thing standing between Fort Hamilton and a third straight undefeated regular season. Sorry, Kennedy, the Tigers’ Week 9 foe, isn’t beating them. Sheepshead Bay has enjoyed a nice year and will likely be back in the playoffs for the 14th straight season, but it can’t handle Fort Hamilton’s power run game, nor can anyone else. Pick: Fort Hamilton

Raimondi: Fort Hamilton just doesn’t lose regular-season games. That’s the way it goes. Of course, the Tigers haven’t faced one of the other Big Three in the PSAL. But hopefully we get one or more of those matchups in the playoffs. Fort Hamilton just has too much of everything for young Sheepshead. Pick: Fort Hamilton

No. 6 Curtis @ New Dorp (Saturday, 12 p.m.)

Raimondi: Is there a better name in the PSAL than Prince Dukes? That’s a headline writer’s dream. The best part is we’ll have the Curtis freshman quarterback for the next three years, too. By the way, he’s legit. And he’ll be a handful for a lackluster New Dorp defense. Pick: Curtis

Braziller: Dukes’ emergence coupled with the return of dynamic running back Shaquan Coles from injury has transformed the Curtis offense. With an already stout defense in play, the Warriors are my playoff sleeper. I think they’ll give Tottenville all it can handle a week from Saturday. New Dorp is just the warmup act. Pick: Curtis

No. 10 Flushing @ Port Richmond (Saturday, 12 p.m.)

Braziller: Controversy has followed the Red Devils after their brawl with DeWitt Clinton and Lehman coach Michael Saunds pulled his team off the field with 2:20 left in Flushing’s 31-8 victory last Saturday. That being said, Jim DeSantis’ kids deserve kudos for another impressive year; if not for the fight with Clinton, they would likely be 6-1. I wouldn’t want to see this hard-nosed bunch in the playoffs. Port Richmond will attest to that by late Saturday afternoon. Pick: Flushing

Raimondi: Is Flushing a dirty team? I don’t know about all of that. Do the Red Devils play hard and physical to the whistle and take advantage of what referees give them? Sure. That’s what makes them so good without having superior talent like the upper echelon of the PSAL. This is a big test, though, going to Staten Island and meeting a pretty solid program. I think Flushing is up for it. Pick: Flushing

Susan Wagner @ No. 1 Tottenville (Saturday, 7 p.m.)

Raimondi: It’s not fun picking Tottenville games anymore. Let’s increase the level of difficulty, Zach. We both know the Pirates are going to win and win big, but I’m saying they beat Wagner 33-6 and Gil Mendoza rushed for at least two touchdowns. What do you think? Pick: Tottenville

Braziller: Great idea. I have Brandon Barnes down for four touchdown passes, two to Alvin Cornelius, in the Pirates’ 40-12 shellacking of Wagner. Bring on Curtis. Pick: Tottenville

No. 7 Thomas Jefferson vs. FDR (Saturday, 2 p.m. @ New Utrecht)

Braziller: FDR has two wins, but I’m still not so sure moving up to the City Championship division was a smart move. The Cougars’ last three losses are by a combined 116-25. That will continue against Jefferson’s high-flying attack. The Orange Wave did it right, winning a Bowl crown and then taking a promotion. Pick: Jefferson

Raimondi: I can’t kill FDR anymore like we were in the beginning. Hey, two wins is more than Madison, Grady and Canarsie have combined. Of course, those victories won’t mean a thing against Jefferson. The Orange Wave should roll to set up an awesome Week 9 game with Boys & Girls. Pick: Jefferson
