Arraignment scheduled for suspect in Va. Metro terror plot

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A Pakistani-born U.S. citizen accused of attempting to help al-Qaida bomb the Washington Metro transit system is scheduled to make an appearance in federal court.

Thirty-four-year-old Farooque Ahmed was arrested last month after being targeted in a federal sting operation. Authorities say he plotted with people he thought were al-Qaida members to conduct bombings at D.C. Metrorail stations.

In fact, the people he allegedly believed were al-Qaida members were actually undercover law enforcement.

Ahmed is expected to enter a not guilty plea at Tuesday’s arraignment, and a judge will set a trial date. Ahmed is being held in jail pending trial.
