Retired US General McChrystal appointed to board of NY-based airline JetBlue

Retired General Stanley McChrystal — who was famously fired as head commander of the US mission in Afghanistan after a Rolling Stone magazine feature — has been appointed to the board of New York-based airline JetBlue, the company announced Tuesday.

Chairman of the airline’s board of directors, Joel Peterson, said McChrystal’s appointment would add a “new dimension” to the company’s team of advisors.

In the statement McChrystal, 56, said he was keen to contribute his insights to strengthen the company.

The four-star general left the US military in July after the magazine featured comments from him strongly criticizing the Obama administration’s civilian leadership of the Afghanistan conflict.

At his July 24 retirement ceremony, McChrystal said he was looking toward the future with “hope and an iPhone,” adding that his 34-year US Army career “did not end as well as I would have wished.”

He is currently teaching a seminar on leadership at Yale University and serves alongside his wife Annie on the Board of Directors for the Yellow Ribbon Fund, a non-profit organization committed to helping wounded veterans and their families.
