Jets deny Thurman permission to talk to Raiders: report

The Jets have denied the Raiders permission to talk to Dennis Thurman about becoming Oakland’s defensive coordinator, FOXSports.com reports
.

Thurman, the Jets secondary coach, came to the Jets from the Ravens two seasons ago with head coach Rex Ryan. He is considered a key part of the Jets’ defensive staff and is credited with helping to develop Jets All-Pro Darrelle Revis and Ravens All-Pro Ed Reed.

Thurman also has been mentioned as a possible candidate to become Eagles defensive coordinator.

Mike Pettine is the Jets defensive coordinator.

Thurman, 55 in April, this season reportedly was part of the controversy surrounding treatment of a female reporter
at Jets practice. He played eight of nine seasons in the NFL for the Cowboys before ending with the Cardinals in 1986.

The Raiders this month hired Hue Jackson to replace Tom Cable as head coach. NJ.com reports Jackson and Thurman coached together at USC in the 1990s.

Jackson has dismissed former defensive coordinator John Marshall and according to the Oakland Tribune
has talked to assistant Chuck Bresnahan about the position.
