Former Pennsylvania Gov. Rendell splits from wife of 40 years

PHILADELPHIA — Former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell and his wife, US District Court Judge Marjorie “Midge” Rendell, are separating after 40 years of marriage, the couple announced Monday.

Ed Rendell finished his second and final term as governor on Jan. 18 and the couple told friends via email they are now living apart, Philly.com reported.

“Dear friends, we wanted to let you know that we have decided to embark upon this next phase of our lives by living separately,” the email said.

“This has been a difficult decision, but we both believe it is the right thing to do. Our parting is amicable, and we will remain friends and continue to be active in our community, sometimes together, sometimes separately.”

The couple requested that people “respect our privacy, and our decision, and wish us well.”

It was unknown if the couple had filed legal documents to indicate they were legally separated or divorcing.

Ed Rendell has new jobs lined up working for NBC and at his old law firm. He is a former two-term mayor of Philadelphia and district attorney.
