Girls basketball roundup: O’Hare shoots St. Peter’s to comeback win

St. Peter’s knew full well it was better than the way it played in the first half, trailing by double digits.

“We weren’t able to connect,” junior Jamie O’Hare said. “But once we started getting more aggressive and realizing we shouldn’t have been playing scared we pulled it all together as a team.”

It was the guard that also started connecting from long range. She scored 12 of her 25 points in the third quarter on four 3-pointers to help lead the Eagles to a 67-63 win over East Orange in the A New Years Resolution girls basketball event at John F. Kennedy HS in Patterson, N.J., Saturday.

She hit five treys in the game. Christine Kline tallied 21 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out six assists. Megan Burns added 10 points. St. Peter’s (6-3) trailed 35-23 at the half and 51-48 after three, but took the lead for good early in the fourth quarter.

“I focused as best I could and started hitting shots that I wouldn’t have hit without the intensity and fire in the team, especially Christine,” O’Hare said. “She played an amazing game from the start.

McFarlane told The Post in December that he was thinking about canceling the game. He did not return a voicemail message from The Post on Saturday.
