NBC’s primary concern: Will Trump run?

NBC is pushing Donald Trump to make up his mind about whether he wants to be a reality-show host or run for president before the Peacock network unveils its fall lineup on Sunday, The Post has learned.

The real-estate magnate had previously said he would make his decision a few days after the finale of “Celebrity Apprentice” on May 22, but NBC desperately needs the show to be in its fall schedule to pump up affiliates and advertisers ahead of its annual “upfront” presentation on Monday.

While plenty of people think his presidential aspirations are a stunt to boost ratings, NBC has been “calling Trump every hour” and making offers that are said to touch $60 million, according to industry sources. It’s unclear if this would represent a multi-year deal.

Trump co-produces “Celebrity Apprentice” along with TV producer Mark Burnett. “Celebrity Apprentice” has consistently been the top-rated network show on Sunday nights, leading up to a large audience to watch Trump say, “You’re fired,” in the ritual boardroom scene.

A deal for $60 million would rank among the most lucrative for a television celebrity. The top-rated “American Idol” judges each make $10 million a year, while Simon Cowell rakes in $30 million for judging talent shows like “X Factor.”

Trump has already boosted ratings for “Celebrity Apprentice” by relentlessly pursuing President Obama over his “real” birth certificate until the president finally released it.

If Trump re-ups with “Celebrity Apprentice,” he would have to say sayonara to his dream of entering the presidential race as he would be unable to continue his corporate wheeling and dealing without coming under intense scrutiny.

Trump could not be reached for comment. NBC executives were unavailable to comment.
