Man struck & killed by Metro North train

Metro-North and the MTA police are investigating the cause of an accident that killed a track worker and stranded 50 passengers early Monday.

The Metro-North Railroad employee was fixing tracks on Park Avenue near East 106th Street around 12:55 a.m. when a Hudson Line train that was en route to Poughkeepsie struck him, the MTA said.

The victim, who was in his 60s, was rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition and died soon after, authorities said.

The train had left Grand Central Station at 12:47 a.m. The passengers were transferred to another train, which took them from the accident scene around 2:15 a.m., officials said.
