Jessica Chastain on ‘True Detective’? Not so fast

The Internet was abuzz Wednesday morning after Nerdist reported that Jessica Chastain had been offered a lead role in HBO’s second season of “True Detective.”

But Chastain’s reps later shot down those rumors, telling E! News that the “Zero Dark Thirty” actress is not doing the series.

The Oscar-nominated Chastain has been keeping busy in movies, starring in “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby,” which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last week, and will co-star in Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar” (with McConaughey) later this year.

The Season Two casting has been highly anticipated ever since “True Detective” premiered last January and earned rave reviews for stars Matthew McConaughey (continuing his McConaissance) and Woody Harrelson.

In an interview with HitFix, series creator Nic Pizzolato hinted that he could be looking for a female star, saying the next season will be about “hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system.”

“True Detective'”s anthology format calls for a new cast and story for each 8-episode season. Its first season averaged about 11 million viewers. HBO has not yet announced dates for the second season.
