Former Jet WR Burress takes dig at Sanchez

Plaxico Burress delivered a few more parting shots to the Jets yesterday as he continues his media tour while he looks for a job.

Burress appeared on ESPN’s “First Take” and was asked if he believes Sanchez is the quarterback to lead the Jets to a Super Bowl.

“They just paid him, so I think they believe he is,” Burress said, referring to Sanchez’s contract extension in March.

Burress was then pressed whether he believes Sanchez is good enough to get the Jets to the Super Bowl.

“I think the defense will,” he said, taking a shot at Sanchez in the process. “I think they definitely have a Super Bowl defense.”

Burress spent one disappointing season with the Jets, registering career lows for a full season in catches and receiving yards. He is a free agent, but has drawn little to no interest from teams.

The hosts also asked Burress about the other Jets quarterback — Tim Tebow. Burress praised Tebow as a competitor, but said receivers would not want to play with him because he is not a pure passer.

“As a starting wide receiver in the NFL, you walk out there on Sunday and line up … it’s not Peyton Manning back there,” Burress said.

Burress said it is possible Tebow will replace Sanchez midseason, and believes Tebow will push Sanchez.

“I think he’s going to make Mark Sanchez a better quarterback,” Burress said. “When they bring somebody in at your position, he’s going to compete.”
