New thug fad: gun share-and-stash

Ruthless gangbangers are drawing on lessons from kindergarten — adopting policies of “share and share alike” when it comes to their illegal handguns, cops said yesterday.

“People aren’t carrying around their own guns anymore, they’re sharing them and stashing them,” said Detective Joseph Cruzado of the Queens gang squad.

“Four, five years ago, we’d see almost every gang member carrying their own gun. You don’t see that anymore.”

Cops revealed the underworld gun-loan program as they announced the bust of 56 drug thugs in the Rockaways over the past several months.

About 30 of them are known members of the Bloods and Crips.

In addition to $35,000 in drugs, investigators found nine handguns that were shared among members of each gang.

The gangsters stashed the weapons in secret locations — such as bushes — so that other members of their organizations could retrieve the weapons when they needed them, police said.

One 16-year-old was caught as he carried a gun to a covert stash location where others could check it out, library-style.

“There’s no rhyme or reason as to where they’ll stash the guns,” said Cruzado, adding that stash spots have included mailboxes and even baby carriages.

Although the sharing started with the lousy economy, cops credited their stop-and-frisk policy for forcing thugs to hide their weapons and share them.

“These guys are a lot more reluctant to be carrying a firearm,” Cruzado said.
