‘Speed’ cams nixed for city

Big Brother won’t bother speeding Big Apple drivers any time soon.

An Albany bill to bring speeding-detection cameras to New York City failed to make it to the floor for a vote yesterday, killing its chances of becoming law until at least 2013.

The bill — which had bipartisan support — would have enabled authorities to issue $50 tickets to owners whose cars are caught going 10 miles above the speed limit. Going 30 miles over would result in a $100 fine.

Washington, DC and Chicago already use the speed cameras.
