A Staten Island rapper who appeared in a video with the group TLC and has shared a stage with Notorious B.I.G., Tupac Shakur and Big Daddy Kane turned himself in Wednesday in connection with a deadly hit-and-run in New Brighton on New Year’s Day.

Shyheim Franklin, 36, also known as Manchild and The Rugged Child, was the alleged driver who fled the scene of the accident that killed a man on Lafayette Street and Cassidy Place around 5 a.m. Jan. 1, police said.

Felipe Avila, 29, was driving his Toyota Celica to work when Franklin blasted through a stop sign in his friend’s 1996 Volvo, smashed into Avila’s car, bailed from the car and ran off, authorities said.

Franklin’s blood allegedly splattered on the driver’s-side air bag, law- enforcement sources said.

Avila was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Franklin has a history of arrests that includes a bust last April for possession of more than 40 bags of heroin and a .32 caliber revolver, sources said.

On Tuesday, Franklin posted a video on Facebook pleading with friends, family and fans to donate to his legal defense. Franklin has performed freestyle with big- name acts at Madison Square Garden and once lived with a member of the Wu-Tang Clan in the Stapleton Houses.
