SURF’S UP

Summertime Surf School

Go “down the shore” in New Jersey and hang 10 with this rad group of experienced surfers, who draw inspiration from the Waikiki Beach Boys, Hawaiian surf instructors who helped popularize the sport.

“They brought tourists and taught them all about the surf lifestyle and culture,” says owner Shaun McGrath. “Here, we are trying to uphold [their] traditions and practices.”

Summertime Surf School offers a full-day and half-day camp for kids during the week, and an adult camp on select weekends.

Corey’s Wave Professional Surf Lessons

Get your surf education at this Montauk, LI, gem, which specializes in teaching newbie surfers — there’s usually one instructor for every two students, so it’s pretty personalized.

“We teach many complete beginners, but we also teach a good amount of new to intermediate surfers looking to get past various obstacles,” says director Kristin Anguilo.

Corey’s Wave offers private and semiprivate lessons for kids. For veterans, there are “Mega Surf Training Sessions,” which focus on fine-tuning skills.

Lessons are held at Ditch Plains beach in Montauk, and at several locations in the Hamptons; 760-420-3733, coreyswave.com
