‘Occupy’ catches a few rays in the Sun

SUN VALLEY, Idaho — Now this is the 1 percent.

The Occupy Wall Street movement yesterday crashed Allen & Co.’s exclusive media retreat, where the nation’s wealthiest business titans rub elbows every summer.

Protesters railing against the growing gap between the rich and everyone else gathered at the Sun Valley Resort near the duck pond, where Google co-founder Sergey Brin and Mayor Mike Bloomberg were enjoying a leisurely lunch.

A group of seven people, dressed in “Greed Kills” T-shirts laid on the ground and refused to move. They quickly unfurled a yellow banner that read: “White Collar Crime Scene.”

“There is an event going on with the 1 percent,” said one activist, Jennifer Carter, of Boise, Idaho. “Their policies are deleterious for the rest of us.”

“This event encompasses oil, pharma and big business. They are together and they are what destroys the quality of life for everybody,” added Carter.

The morning session at the annual conference was titled, “Energy Independence.”

Lodge security called the police, and the protestors were cleared off the property after about 15 minutes.

While the fading movement has targeted the 1 percent on plenty of occasions, the Sun Valley event truly represents America’s top earners.

The collective worth of the richest on the guest list tops $222 billion — not including billionaires. Warren Buffett, Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg are among the attendees this year.
