Jets’ Richardson named Defensive Rookie of the Month

Jets defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for November.

Richardson, who was drafted 13th overall in April from Missouri with the Jets’ second selection of the first round, had an excellent month, recording 23 tackles, four for a loss.

He was also adept at getting after the opposing quarterback, posting seven hurries and half a sack. In Sunday’s 19-3 loss at Baltimore, Richardson was a bright spot, tying for the game high with nine tackles.

Richardson has been a key member of a stout defensive front, which limited opponents to 176 yards on 82 carries in November, good for a microscopic 2.1 yards per rush.

This season, Richardson has recorded 72 tackles, including 10 for a loss. He has 22 quarterback hurries, three sacks, one pass defensed, and a forced fumble.
