Apple’s iPhone 6 could hit stores in August

The iPhone appears to be getting a jump on its bigger-screen rivals.

Apple will roll out the latest iteration of its popular smartphone in August, a month earlier than analysts were expecting, a new report says.

The company is moving up the 4.7-inch screen version of the iPhone 6, which was expected to hit store shelves in September, according to a report in Taiwan’s largest paper, citing supply chain sources in Asia.

The change comes as iPhone sales are getting crimped by bigger-screen competition from Samsung and HTC, the Economic Daily News reported, according to Reuters.

Apple has shown a preference for releasing the newest version of its iconic smartphone in September, including the iPhone 5 in September 2012.

A 5.5-inch or 5.6-inch model of the iPhone 6 will still be released in September, the paper said.
