NFL: Pats cornerback convicted

Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard faces up to five years in prison after he was convicted of assaulting a police officer in Lincoln, Neb., last April. A jury found Dennard guilty of the felony charge and a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest, but acquitted the former Nebraska standout of third-degree assault against another man. His sentencing hearing is April 11.

Hoops: Rockets trade four players

The Rockets reached separate agreements on trades that will send Patrick Patterson, Cole Aldrich and Toney Douglas to Sacramento and Marcus Morris to Phoenix. Houston will receive Thomas Robinson, the No. 5 pick in last year’s draft, Francisco Garcia and Tyler Honeycutt from the Kings. In the other deal, the Rockets will receive a future second-round pick from the Suns in exchange for Morris, who will join his twin brother, Markieff.

James Harden had a career-high 46 points and Jeremy Lin added 29 as the Rockets beat the Thunder 122-119. … LeBron James scored 24 points in the Heat’s 103-90 win over the Hawks.

COLLEGE: Miami coaches cited

The NCAA believes former Miami assistant coaches Clint Hurtt, Aubrey Hill and Jorge Fernandez provided false or misleading information during the probe into the university’s athletic programs. A source said the NCAA accused all three of violating “principles of ethical conduct.”

Fordham (6-21, 2-10 A-10) dropped its seventh game in a 68-60 defeat at George Washington.

MLB: Garagiola retiring at 87

Joe Garagiola, at age 87, said he is retiring as part-time TV analyst for the Diamondbacks. … The Red Sox acquired Mike Carp from the Mariners for a player to be named or cash. Carp can play first base and left field.

ETC.: Ruff fired by Sabres

Lindy Ruff, who had coached the Sabres since 1997, was fired after a 6-10-1 start. Ron Rolston was promoted from Buffalo’s AHL affiliate to finish out the season.

AC Milan upset Barcelona 2-0 in the first leg of their Champions League matchup. The second leg of the series will be March 12 in Spain.

North Dakota suspended basketball play-by-play radio announcer Paul Ralston for two games after he used the phrase “choke job” following an overtime loss to Northern Arizona.
