Reem Acra

The Who: Katherine Heigel precariously descended the stairs from a suite to the other side of the room saying “That was terrifying. No rails, nothing.” She wore a black cap sleeve lace peplum mini dress with a sky high blush satin peeptoe platform and sat in a row of glossy blonds including Tinsley Mortimer.

The What: Fishnets are synonymous with Fredericks of Hollywood, women of the night and now, uptown ladies, thanks to Reem Acra, who managed to give the loosely knit stocking a reputation makeover. Worked into dramatic tulle ball gowns, panels on shifts and as a column dress overlay, it was a constant in the collection, which was inspired by a trip to Japan. The Asian influences were seen in tweed oversized kimonos, Mandarin collars and floral embellishments. Fox fur gave it an air of the Upper East Side glamour while goat hair ponchos, capes and coats were decidedly more downtown rock n roll.

The Highlight: As you do, Acra saved the best for last: a black and white ball gown with embroidered fishnet, floor sweeping tulle and a layered peplum. A black bomber jacket was cool and current.

The Takeaway: This collection was sophisticated with a touch of black magic.
