The Who: The front row was just as eclectic as the brand’s aesthetic: rocker Kim Gordon, hipster photog Terry Richardson, and a smartly dressed David Karp (he’s the founder and CEO of Tumblr, in case you didn’t know).
The What: The sister duo of Kate and Laura Mulleavy are moving forward into the terrain of making their highly-coveted threads more “accessible.” But that’s not to say they sacrificed their signature traits. They opened with a black suede jacket paired with matching culottes, but quickly moved into a series of whisper-thin chiffon blouses and tiered dresses (done in the softest shades of black, nude and white). Some were embroidered with beaded wings, and all were topped with delicate gold tiaras.
The Highlight: An angelic Lindsey Wixon practically floated down the runway in a white silk chiffon tunic with matching skirt.
The Takeaway: The neon-lit set — and dramatic finale in which the tie-dye clad models stood still for a solid few minutes — signaled that the Mulleavy’s still adhere to a unique aesthetic. But the selection of embellished white leather jackets, acid washed denim separates, and embellished-knit skirt-and-sweater sets signaled that they’ve struck a pitch-perfect balance between fantasy and wearable reality.
