Gold fork in the road for pasta place Alfredo 100

It’s called Alfredo 100 — and not as a nod to the Roman-themed murals by the late Al Hirschfeld.

The relocation and renaming of Alfredo of Rome from its Rock Center home to 7 E. 54th St. marks the 100th birthday of both the original Alfredo restaurant and its popular dish, fettuccine alfredo.

Pasta dishes are served table side with a gold fork and spoon, a custom that began when regulars Douglas Fairbanks Jr. and Mary Pickford presented golden utensils to owner Alfredo di Lello after dining at the original Alfredo during their Roman honeymoon.

Executive chef James Henderson, formerly of Eataly, Periyali, and Oceana, will be managing the menu from the old Bice space, which has restaurants in Palm Beach, Fla., and Miami.

The restaurant will seat 125 in the main dining room, 25 in the lounge, and 12 at the bar, plus 35 seats in a private event space.

Hold the corned beef. In Italy, especially Sicily, St. Joseph’s Day is the mid-March celebration of food and family.

To mark the occasion on March 16, Chelsea restaurants Bar Eolo: Sicilian Kitchen and Wines and Pastai will decorate an altar at Bar Eolo with candles, limes, religious medals, rosaries, fava beans, uniquely shaped breads, zeppole and offer a buffet with hot and cold foods and meatless dishes in observance of Lent.
