Former high school coach convicted on child porn charges

A former Queens housing court officer and volunteer girls basketball coach was convicted on Wednesday for hoarding hundreds of child pornography images and raping one of his nieces — while the judge declared a mistrial on charges for two other victims due to a hung jury.

Kerbet Dixon represented himself in the month-long trial and is facing up to 25 years in prison for violating his 10-year-old niece and additional years for downloading over 600 forms of kiddie porn from June 2008 until June 2009.

Dixon was also charged with sexually assaulting two other nieces inside the basement of his Springfield Gardens home that he shared with his three children and his wife of 25 years — but the jurors could not make a unanimous decision to convict.

“I want a retrial because there are plenty, plenty more kids that have to come forward,” charged one victim’s parent outside of Queens Supreme Court.

The jurors voted to convict Dixon 11 to 1 for the youngest victim and 9 to 3 on the oldest — now ages 13 and 20-years-old, respectively.

“You were a terrific jury and this was a very difficult case…I’ll discharge you,” said Justice Richard Buchter to the jurors who were deadlocked on four of the 651 counts against Dixon after deliberating for five days.

Prosecutors will decide at sentencing on April 9 whether they will go through with a retrial.

Dixon, an assistant coach at Murry Bergtraum High School in lower Manhattan, plans to continue to represent himself for an appeal.
