Friends raise over $20G for comedian hit by subway train

“Scrubs” actor Zach Braff has kicked in nearly $10,000 to help pay medical bills for the Brooklyn comedian who slipped on a subway platform while texting and was hit by a train.

An online fund for Liza Dye, who was cracking jokes from her Bellevue Hospital bed just a day after she was hit Thursday, surpassed $20,000 Monday.

Dye, 25, who has no insurance and is studying at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, was hit by the train at the Broadway-Lafayette station in Soho.

She suffered a severe leg injury and has had two surgeries.

Braff donated $9,999 to her website www.helpliza.com on Sunday.

“Keep making people laugh,” he posted on the site. “Don’t watch the season 2 opener of ‘House of Cards.’ ”

In that episode, reporter Zoe Barnes, played by Kate Mara, is pushed in front of a speeding train by Frank Underwood, Kevin Spacey’s character.

Brooklyn video editor Minnie Bennet, 25, said she has mutual friends with Dye and decided to donate after learning on Facebook what had happened.

“When I read the article about how she tweeted a thumbs-up when she was OK, I thought that was really cool,” she said.

“Her comedy really has a ‘me too’ feeling about it. You’re with her.”

Dye’s Web site received so many donations Sunday that it crashed for about six hours.“All comedians can really identify with this,” said Lee, a stand-up comic who has appeared on Comedy Central and VH1. “We all moved to New York with nothing in our pockets and a dream.”

A benefit was also held the same day at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater.

Another fund-raiser will be held March 5 at The Stand in Gramercy, and will feature comedians such as Janeane Garofalo, Pete Lee and Amanda Seales.
