ATV rider nabbed after ‘fleeing, running over’ cop

A Queens ATV driver was busted Friday for allegedly mowing down and seriously injuring an NYPD cop during a wild Brooklyn traffic stop.

Kenny Ortiz, 31, is facing an attempted-murder rap for running over NYPD Detective Matthew McClusky, who pulled him over on Pitkin Avenue at around 3:30 p.m. Sunday for erratically driving the illegal vehicle, cops said.

Wearing a black biker helmet decorated with skulls, Ortiz hit the gas as McClusky, in plainclothes, stepped out of his unmarked car and approached his four-wheeler.

The detective immediately grabbed the handlebars as Ortiz motored off and was violently dragged for 200 feet at 50 miles an hour, cops said.

The courageous officer finally released his grip after barreling perilously close to a parked car as Ortiz continued to accelerate, cops said.

The vehicle rumbled over the officer and left him in a bloody heap, according to cops.

Ortiz, of Jamaica, Queens, claims that he thought the plainclothes officer was trying to rob him of his bike and that he panicked after running over him.

ATVs are off-road vehicles not allowed on city streets.

McClusky suffered a spinal fracture, a broken nose, bruised ribs and a cut left ankle in the harrowing incident.

Sources said he has been released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. He picked Ortiz out of a photo lineup, sources said.

Police thought they collared McClusky’s assailant the day after the incident when they busted ATV enthusiast Christian Oliviere, 24, as he allegedly careened around the same area.

They quickly cleared him of any involvement in the collision but still nailed him on charges of reckless endangerment and speeding.

Ortiz was arrested at his home alongside his attorney Friday at noon.

He is facing a slew of felony charges including attempted murder of a police officer, assault with attempt to cause serious injury with a weapon, attempted aggravated vehicular homicide and resisting arrest.
