NCAA: Blankmeyer sets mark

St. John’s baseball coach Ed Blankmeyer became the school’s all-time wins leader after yesterday’s 4-3 win over Seton Hall — his alma mater — his 612th victory in 18 seasons.

Blankmeyer has led the Johnnies to eight NCAA Tournaments, three Big East regular-season crowns and three Big East Tournament titles, producing 57 professional players and four major leaguers.

HOCKEY: Kings stun Sharks

Captain Dustin Brown tied it with 1:43 left and Trevor Lewis scored the tiebreaking power-play goal 22 seconds later, propelling the Kings to a stunning 4-3 victory over the Sharks and a 2-0 series lead.

Earlier, Sharks forward Raffi Torres was suspended for the rest of the second-round playoff series for an illegal check to the head of Kings forward Jarret Stoll during in Game 1.

Alex Ovechkin played the last two games of the Capitals series against the Rangers with a fracture in his left foot.

NBA: Hunter sues players’ union

Former Players Association executive director Billy Hunter sued the union, its president and his publicist, alleging that they engaged in secret negotiations with team owners to end the 2011 lockout.

A Sacramento-based group headed by software billionaire Vivek Ranadive has reached an agreement to purchase 65 percent of the Kings from the Maloof family for approximately $348 million. The Kings’ total valuation in the sale is $535 million, an NBA record.

GOLF: Poulter, Colsaerts fall

Ian Poulter and Nicolas Colsaerts were unexpected losers on the first day of the World Match Play Championship in Kavarna, Bulgaria.
