Dems irked by Mario Cuomo’s support of new GOPer Hynes

Former Gov. Mario Cuomo is ignoring Democratic Party leaders’ demands that Brooklyn DA Charles Hynes be shunned for running as a Republican — by donating to his campaign.

Cuomo gave $1,000 to Hynes on Oct. 15, about a week after the longtime DA outraged Dems by saying he was taking a second shot at party primary winner Ken Thompson with a run on the GOP line.

The Democratic former governor, pals with Hynes since the ’80s, did not return a call seeking comment.

A spokesman for his son, Gov. Andrew Cuomo, said he had no role in the contribution.

“The governor was unaware of the donation, and his father makes his own decisions,” said the spokesman, Matt Wing.

Hynes’ campaign said Monday his office is continuing to probe what it called a fake, racist e-mail purportedly sent to him by ex-Judge Sol Wachtler.
