INSIDE THE MATCHUPS

YANKEES: After a first-inning shower on May 15, Hughes is 1-2 with a 3.45 ERA. He has struggled this season with the longball. The 26-year-old has given up 11 home runs in his eight starts that the Yankees have lost, and given up just two in his five outings the team has won.

DODGERS: Ryu, a 26-year-old rookie from Korea, has been cruising since a tough outing on May 5. In six starts since, he has yielded just nine earned runs in 41 2/3 innings (1.94 ERA), allowing just 35 hits, though 11 of those came in his last start vs. the Diamondbacks.

STAT SO?

YANKEES: The Dodgers will be in The Bronx for the first time in 32 years — when the two teams met for the 1981 World Series.

DODGERS: Andre Ethier enters the series with 20 RBIs. At this point last year, he led the NL with 55.
