Man who ran ‘barbaric’ dog fighting arena faces seven years jail

A Brooklyn man who ran a “barbaric” dog fighting arena out of his grimy Brownsville home was busted on animal torture charges and faces seven years behind bars, authorities said today.

Cops found seven pit pulls, 25 kennels, two dog treadmills, syringes, and scales with rope attachments used to strengthen dogs’ jaws when they busted Leslie Alexander, 39, in his Boyland Street home late last month.

Alexander had allegedly converted his garage into an “arena” for dog fighting and training, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office.

“Animal fighting is not a sport. It is a barbaric and inhumane practice and a serious crime,” Brooklyn DA Charles Hynes said in a statement.

Some of the seven dogs were underweight and showed injuries consistent with dog fighting.

The dogs were found when cops got a search warrant for guns and drugs. Cops also found a .40-caliber handgun.

Alexander was indicted last week on charges of training animals to fight, animal torture, and criminal possession of a weapon.
