Trayvon’s parents speak out on verdict: ‘I was stunned, absolutely…I couldn’t believe it’

Trayvon Martin’s parents have spoken out for the first time since George Zimmerman was acquitted of their son’s murder.

Appearing on “CBS This Morning,” Martin’s parents, Sabrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, spoke of their grief and shock at the verdict.

“I was in a bit of shock,” Fulton said. “I was stunned, absolutely. I couldn’t believe it.”

“I thought surely he would be found guilty of second degree murder. Manslaughter at the least.”

“This was just a teenager trying to get home. This was no burglar. This was somebody’s son that was trying to get home.”

On Juror B37, who told CNN this week she believed Trayvon Martin played a role in his own death, Fulton said the juror did not know her son.

“Trayvon is not a confrontational person,” Fulton said.

When asked whether racial profiling played a role in the confrontation between George Zimmerman and her son, Fulton said, “For someone to look at him and see a burglar, that is the problem that initiated everything.”

“I want America to know that Trayvon was a fun-loving child. He was our child. We miss him dearly,” Martin said.

The parents’ attorney said they were looking at all legal options including the possibility of a civil suit.
