Rising star Amber Tamblyn, already a veteran of her own CBS series, “Joan of Arcadia,” will join the cast of the long-running sitcom “Two and a Half Men.”
In an ironic twist for the Chuck Lorre comedy, Tamblyn, 30, will play Jennifer Harper — the illegitimate daughter of ex-star Charlie Sheen’s character, Charlie Harper. The two characters share more than a last name: they both like women.
That’s right: Charlie’s daughter is gay.
Tamblyn’s role is only recurring at this point. She’s scheduled to appear in five episodes of “Men” as her character moves to LA to pursue a show business career and get acquainted with the Harper family.
If the audience embraces the storyline, there’s every chance that Tamblyn’s role could be elevated to co-lead alongside series stars Jon Cryer and Ashton Kutcher.
Tamblyn’s arrival on “Two and a Half Men” could not come at a better time, and is not coincidental. The show’s “Half,” Angus T. Jones, will be appearing less frequently this season as Alan Harper’s(Cryer) son, Jake. Tamblyn, 30, has the potential to fill the void and adds a fresh take to the chorus of jaded male voices.
Tamblyn’s career on TV began on the soaps with a role that lasted for six years on “General Hospital.” She received an Emmy nomination for her role as a teenage girl who talks to God on “Joan of Arcadia” and did a season-long arc on Fox’s “House.”
Sheen was fired from the show two years ago after publicly blasting Lorre, CBS and show producer Warner Bros. His Charlie Harper character was subsequently killed off when he was hit by a speeding train. The season premiere is Sept. 26.
