Giants Blitz

HERO: His final numbers were not spectacular (24-for-41, 288 yards, 3 TDs, 2 INTs), but Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith set the tone early, killing the Giants with some scrambles and making the key passes. As usual, all Smith does is win. He is 24-5-1 as a starter in his last 30 games.

ZERO: The entire Giants offense, which was given opportunity after opportunity to convert but failed to get anything going. They produced five first downs in the second half and were 1-of-14 on third-down conversions for the game. Pathetic.

KEY MOMENT: Dexter McCluster’s 89-yard punt return for a touchdown broke open a tight game and gave the Chiefs a 17-7 lead in the third quarter. Adding insult to injury, McCluster did a salsa dance in the end zone, an obvious mock directed at Giants WR Victor Cruz.

KEY STATS: 3, 0 — The Giants defense forced three turnovers against a Kansas City offense that had not turned the ball over once in three games, but the offense converted zero points off of them.

QUOTE: “It’s hard to believe that this team is two years removed from being the best team in the world.’’
