Cajun-Creole restaurant spices up Second Avenue

Residents suffering from Second Avenue subway construction will get some much-needed relief in the form of a new restaurant.

Infirmary NYC, a new Cajun and Creole spot, will open in a few weeks at 1720 Second Ave.

The restaurant is the first from James Cottingham, who moved to New York after Hurricane Katrina and brought a taste of New Orleans with him.

“I love it here. New York has been good to me,” he tells Side Dish, adding that the restaurant will be a “cocktail-driven place unlike anything on the Upper East Side.”

The food will be “small bite plates with a New Orleanian flair” but will venture well beyond basic “gumbo and red beans.”

The 1,800 square-foot spot will seat around 45 to 50 people with 35 more seats at the bar.

Other new neighborhood spots include MexiBBQ, the first outpost of the popular Astoria spot, at 1633 Second Ave. Another new hot spot is Supply House, at 1647 Second Ave., which serves a “hot coffee” burger — a burger with a coffee crust.
