NYC’s first lady hires new assistant

Turns out Mayor de Blasio isn’t the only one bulking up his staff.

First Lady Chirlane McCray has added a special assistant on top of her $170,000-per-year chief of staff.

Clement James, whose salary is $65,000, will help McCray out during public appearances and other events, City Hall officials said Friday. He was formerly a field organizer for the campaigns of Gov. Cuomo and President Obama, and most recently worked at the Parks Department, according to records.

McCray was appointed by her hubby early in February as the unpaid chair of the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City — a nonprofit that coordinates public-private partnerships with the city.

But her staffers’ roles tie into her duties as first lady, not those related to her position as chair of the Mayor’s Fund, officials said.

McCray was given an office at 253 Broadway last month — just steps away from City Hall.

She launched a Tumblr blog about a month ago — which can be found at flonyc.tumblr.com — on which she shares thoughts and images related to her work as first lady.
