Good Friday reenacted with Way of the Cross on Brooklyn Bridge

More than 3,000 Christians led by Timothy Cardinal Dolan commemorated the crucifixion of Jesus on Good Friday during the 19th annual Way of the Cross Procession across the Brooklyn Bridge.

Also marching were Brooklyn Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio and Brooklyn resident Jonathan From, who held a wooden cross to symbolize the last journey of Christ.

Earlier, Dolan spoke to a packed congregation at St. James Cathedral in Downtown Brooklyn.

“Just as that bridge, the Brooklyn Bridge, spans and brings together Brooklyn and Manhattan, Jesus is the bridge who brings together God and man,” Dolan said.

The march mirrored the Stations of the Cross, which represent important points on Jesus’ path to his crucifixion.

The first station was at St. James, the fourth was near the World Trade Center and the final station was at St. Peter’s Church nearby.
