The owner of the Metro Tech office complex in Downtown Brooklyn announced today that it is launching a summer-long festival which will fill the complex’s outdoor public plaza with free music, film, live sports and other events.
The Summer@MetroTech series in the Metro Tech Commons plaza by Forest City Ratner Companies builds on the popular BAM R&B Festival, which is entering its 19th season.
“Summer@MetroTech will be a festival that reflects the passion and innovation of the MetroTech and Downtown Brooklyn communities, with cutting edge performances and exhibitions,” said MaryAnne Gilmartin, president/CEO of FCRC. “There will be something for everyone, from world-class performances to the big game on the big screen. We’re thrilled to partner again with BAM, and to welcome so many exciting new organizations this year and for years to come.”

Highlights of Summer@MetroTech, according to a press release, include:
• The BAM R&B Festival: Features an eclectic roster of legendary trailblazers and emerging musical visionaries of R&B and world music.
• Rooftop Films Presents: Three film presentations, including special live performances.
• World Science Festival’s Innovation Square: An unforgettable day of robots, interactive video games and high-tech installations in partnership with NYU-Poly, consistent with MetroTech’s focus on technology and innovation.
• Sports in the Commons: The summer’s hottest sporting events will be broadcast live on the big screen, full schedule to be announced soon.
• CityParks Putting Challenge: Test your skills against the best in Brooklyn, with funds going to support City Parks Foundation’s free junior golf program.
• BEAT Festival: The festival for emerging Brooklyn theater artists will bring a number of performances to the Commons in September.
• Bastille Day Celebration: MetroTech’s La Defense Bakery and Bistro hosts a celebration featuring Downtown Brooklyn’s own Petanque Tournament on professional-grade courts, plus food and live music.
