Diaz accuses UFC champ St-Pierre of using ‘plenty of steroids’

Nick Diaz doesn’t just think Georges St-Pierre is pampered. He thinks the UFC welterweight champion is using performance-enhancing drugs, too.

Diaz, who challenges St-Pierre on Saturday night at UFC 158 in Montreal (PPV, 10 p.m.), told Sportsnet Canada’s “Tim & Sid” on Thursday that he believes GSP is on “plenty of steroids.”

“And I don’t think they test around here either,” Diaz said. “I doubt I’ll be tested as well. If so, he’s probably got a bottle of [urine] in his pocket.”

Diaz insinuated to the radio show that the UFC and president Dana White know that St-Pierre is on PEDs, but are covering up for him. He compared GSP to now-admitted cheat Lance Armstrong, who has been stripped of all seven of his Tour de France titles due to drug use.

“Lance Armstrong was on steroids and it was really a ridiculous thing that he was on steroids,” Diaz said.

On Wednesday, Diaz blew off the UFC’s open workout for media and fans. He said it was because the organization flew him in late from his native California and he chose to catch up on sleep rather than attend the event.

“There is no schtick with this kid,” White said when asked about Diaz skipping out on Jim Rome’s radio show Wednesday. “He’s just a different animal, man. He’s absolutely hard to deal with.”

White likely won’t be pleased by Diaz’s accusations on “Tim & Sid.” Diaz conceded that the boss will likely be upset with him.

“I’m sure he will, but like I said in the press conference, I may not be able to keep fighting for money and for a living, but I’ll always have to fight for my dignity because that’s who I am, I’ll always tell you the truth,” Diaz said. … “I’ll never sell you a handful of wolf tickets that you’re gonna go take home, feed your family and poison them and poison their future. Morally, it’s not me.”

Apparently, Diaz is irritated because he’s being billed as the villain in this fight and St-Pierre as the hero. Clearly, Diaz thinks it’s not that black and white.

“I think the U.S. wants me to lose this fight,” Diaz said. “It’s not their fault. They are educated. They’re educated to what’s marketed to them. … That’s why there’s fat people. They eat it right up.”

Diaz and St-Pierre went back and forth at the pre-fight press conference Thursday, much like they did last week during a media conference call. Diaz took umbrage to remarks by White, who said that St-Pierre views Diaz as a schoolyard bully.

“How many times have you had a gun to your head, Georges?” Diaz said. “How many of your best friends been shot through the chest with a .45, or how many of your best friends been stomped into a coma? How many kids put gum in your hair growing up? Should I go further? It’s hard times for everybody.”

St-Pierre tried to diffuse the situation, but it didn’t work. Later, he asked Diaz, “You think I’m afraid of you, man? Are you crazy in your head, man? I’m not scared of you. You’ll see Saturday night if I’m afraid of you.”

Diaz said on “Tim & Sid” that his problem is not necessarily with St-Pierre, but with the apparent manufactured buildup to this fight which pegged Diaz as the antagonist.

“I don’t think Georges is a bad guy, I don’t,” Diaz said. “I think he’s a good guy. I don’t think he deserves anything bad. I just think he put himself in a stupid position to sell this fight.”
