The Devils are currently in a slide, and now will have to play at least the next two games without future Hall of Fame goalie Martin Brodeur.
Brodeur was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday with a back injury, retroactive to Sunday when he was slated to start against the Jets but pulled himself out of warmups minutes before the game and was unable to go. After the game he said his back was stiff and was evaluated by doctors on Monday. He was listed by the team as day-to-day but the Devils recalled goalie Keith Kinkaid from Albany on Tuesday, who will likely serve as Johan Hedberg’s backup while Brodeur is out.
Brodeur will miss at least the next two games, Thursday in Winnipeg and Saturday in Buffalo. He is eligible to come off the IR for Monday’s game against Toronto .
New Jersey is already without wingers Dainius Zubrus who had wrist surgery two weeks ago and will miss 4-6 weeks, and Ryan Carter, who was placed on IR Feb 18 with an upper body injury that is believed to be a concussion. If Brodeur is out for an extended period of time, it could hurt the Devils, as Hedberg has allowed 14 goals in his past three starts. The Devils have lost five of their past seven games.
