Boxer’s family sues Garden, docs after bout left him in coma

The family of a Russian boxer who was beaten into a coma during a fight at Madison Square Garden filed a lawsuit Thursday against MSG, the ringside doctors and a referee, claiming the slugfest should have been stopped and that the boxer got poor medical care after the bout.

The Brooklyn Supreme Court lawsuit comes nearly five months after heavyweight boxer Magomed Abdusalamov suffered traumatic brain injuries during a 10-round loss at MSG.

The suit faults the defendants for allowing the November 2013 fight to continue when it was clear Abdusalamov was taking an “extraordinary pummeling,” and for not getting him to a hospital after the fight.

“My 11-year-old nephew got better care on the soccer fields at Dyker Park when he fell and bumped his head than this professional boxer got from professionals at Madison Square Garden,” said attorney Paul Edelstein.

Abdusalamov was hit 312 times during the fight and may never walk again.

His family had already sued the New York State Athletic Commission for $100 million last month.

NYSAC didn’t respond to requests for comment; MSG said it hasn’t been served.
