UFC’s Bisping: ‘I wanted to stick a fork in my eye’ watching Belfort interview

Michael Bisping doesn’t find his upcoming opponent particularly riveting.

The UFC middleweight contender told The Post that he was “bored out of my mind” watching an interview with Vitor Belfort on MMAFighting.com’s “The MMA Hour” on Monday afternoon.

Bisping said he was told to watch the interview because Belfort would be asked about somewhat controversial knockouts of Rich Franklin and Yoshihiro Akiyama where Belfort struck the back of both men’s heads, an illegal blow in the UFC. As it turned out, Bisping was never able to get that far into it.

“It was like watching paint dry,” the sharp-tongued Brit said. “He just kept talking about the Bible and David and Goliath.”

Bisping, 33, flies down to Brazil for his fight with the native Belfort next week in Sao Paulo. If Bisping wins, he’ll get a shot at Anderson Silva’s middleweight title, something he has campaigned for on Twitter for months.

Bisping has 13 UFC wins and one of the best résumés in the history of the organization, but has failed in previous attempts to earn the No. 1 contender label. No European fighter has ever been a UFC champion.

In order to set himself up for that, Bisping will have to beat Belfort. Fortunately for him, there won’t be a Q&A session with the Brazilian beforehand.

“Jesus Christ, I was falling asleep,” Bisping said of the interview. “Vitor is a nice, classy guy … but I wanted to stick a fork in my eye.”

Bisping said he had never even heard of English boxer Tyson Fury before Fury called out UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez on Twitter last week.

A magazine from the United Kingdom called Bisping for a quote about Fury and Bisping was “respectful” – but said there was no way Fury could beat Velasquez. Fury responded on Twitter by calling out Bisping and cursing him out.

“A boxer calling out Cain Velasquez?” Bisping told The Post. “He’s dreaming. It’s a completely different sport. He’d be exposed. He’d be absolutely demolished.”

Bisping was none too pleased about the response from the undefeated Fury, calling him “an embarrassment to British boxing.” Although he did enjoy a video he found online of Fury uppercutting himself in the face.

“I’ve never even heard of the guy,” Bisping said. “He’s just trying to get press. Obviously, it’s working.”
