Knicks say Felton won’t need surgery

SACRAMENTO – The Knicks announced tonight Raymond Felton won’t need surgery on his fractured right pinkie but will be out four to six weeks as expected.

Felton returned to New York today to consult with a hand specialist and instead of surgery, Felton will be in a splint to stabilize the finger. The Knicks called the injury a “complex” fracture.

Felton said last night surgery was a possibility but expected to miss about 4 to 6 weeks. He broke his pinkie on Christmas when he fought for a loose ball with Steve Nash and the ball caromed off his hand. Jason Kidd will become the starting point guard, moving over from shooting guard.

Felton hadn’t missed a game until last night in Phoenix and had X-rays at the arena, revealing the fracture. The Knicks initial diagnosis Christmas was sprained ligaments.
