Knicks won’t guess at attendance for opener

The Knicks won’t guess how many of their expected sellout crowd actually will show up for Friday night’s season opener against the Heat at the Garden because of mass transit and traffic issues related to Hurricane Sandy’s destruction.

But no matter what happens, the Garden is expected to overflow with fans this season. According to a Knicks official, season tickets have sold out for the second straight season, despite an average ticket price hike of 4.9 percent. Last season was the first time they sold out of season tickets since 2001-002). The Knicks regard the season-ticket sellout on the new amenities from the second phase of the MSG transformation with a new upper deck.

(The locked-out Rangers also have sold out of season tickets, the official said.)

The Knicks’ sell-out streak of 66 games is expected to be extended Friday night. The Knicks season-ticket renewal rate was 95 percent.
