Brady: Patriots fans frustrated with close games ‘spoiled’ by success

Tom Brady understands that some people expect more than just wins. They expect style.

But in his weekly radio spot with “Dennis and Callahan” on WEEI in Boston, the Patriots’ quarterback tried to put some things in perspective for fans that are upset with his 4-3, first-place team.

“I wish it were that easy,” Brady said one day after his Patriots beat the Jets, 29-26, in overtime.

“And maybe there were times when it has looked that easy. But I think you appreciate it when it does work. And you realize the preparation that you put into it, that it pays off. Maybe we’ve just spoiled some people in the meantime because it’s hard to win, man. It’s really hard to win.”

When asked why the wins look so much harder than they used to, Brady said, “We’re trying to do it. It’s not like you flip a switch. I don’t think that’s it. There [are] 53 guys that are trying to do their best out there, and we’re just not doing our best.”

The game against the Jets was a sweat to the end, as the Patriots were down by three with 1:37 remaining. But then Brady drove his team 54 yards to set up a Stephen Gostkowski game-tying field goal with six seconds left.

In overtime, Gostkowski nailed a 48-yard shot that held up as the game winner.

“It’s a hard sport, man,” Brady said. “I think there’s times where, like I said, we made it look easy at times, and it’s never been easy. There’s some years where things go a certain way, and there’s some years where they don’t. We’re in dogfights.

“That’s what it is, and that’s what it’s going to be. As a player, it’s not like we go, ‘Man, we’re just going to score 50 points this week.’ No, you’ve got to earn it. And you’re earning it against another damn good team.”

Brady and the Patriots head to London this week to take on the 3-4 Rams.
