Mets great Hernandez to shave moustache for charity

No one will be able to accuse his ’stache of being trash after Thursday.

Keith Hernandez will have his moustache shaved off before the Mets final home game next week. The former Mets first baseman and SNY analyst mentioned the possibility of shaving it off during the Mets previous homestand, and now Schick Hydro has offered $5,000 to Hernandez’s charity in order to make it happen.

“It’s for a good cause. We can have a little fun with it. What the heck?” Hernandez said, with the money going to the Jacquelyn Hernandez Adult Day Health Center.

Hernandez estimates that the last time he was without his moustache was in the late 80’s.

“I can always grow it back,” said Hernandez, who parlayed the moustache into a Just for Men ad.

“I just mentioned it off the cuff in a broadcast on the last homestand and a [reporter] saw it and wrote about it and kind of took off after that. . .. . I didn’t really want to make an issue of it, but now that I can raise some money for the day-care center.” – Justin Terranova
